First of all, Thank you for your interest in a position with our harvesting crew. Our group each year is made up of approximately half full time employees and half seasonal operators.The wheat harvest  is an opportunity to learn about and operate the latest in harvesting equipment and technology. While harvesting throughout the midwest you will meet many new people and see very different geographical areas. The harvest experience is one long remembered and enjoyed by those who go.

Pay
The pay for our harvest crew varies depending on position, experience, and seniority. The minimum starting pay varies but does include motel room and 1 meal a day when working. If you return for more than one season, you may also see a monthly pay increase.

Schedule
The typical harvest day starts with wake-up around 6:30am. You have until around 7:30 to eat breakfast either at the motel or at a local restaurant. We will then head to the field. When you arrive at the field, the grain cart operators will fuel the combines and grain cart while the combine operators grease their machines and tighten chains as needed. We will begin cutting wheat when the moisture is low enough and conditions are right. Lunch will be served anywhere from 12:00 - 2:30pm. We usually try to shut down in time for the crew to haul one last load into the elevator before closing time then head to town so you can get something to eat for the night.

Expectations
You cannot just go into the harvest thinking it's going to be easy, you'll be mistaken. There are long hours and long days, but also you may get a break or two along the way. Enjoy the run, get along with everyone it'll make things easier. If everyone gets along the run is a lot more enjoyable and things seem to go better. Expect to work hard, but also to play hard when time allows. Those rainy days are great for catching up on sleep, checking emails, and sitting back and relaxing or doing laundry as the need arises. It will be stressful at times and a lot will be expected of you, but that's part of it, just take it in stride and go on. It's just a part of harvest.

Things to Take
Here is a list of things to take with you when you go;

- Enough clothes for 2 weeks (it can be a long time before you can wash clothes    again
- Good pair of work boots (ariat, justin, etc.)
- A pair of pliars, they are very very useful
- Pair of non-insulated leather gloves
- XM/Sirius Radio, in the middle of nowhere you don't always get great reception
- Long sleeve shirt/coveralls for greasing in the morning so you don't get all itching/greasy just servicing and then have to deal with it all day
- Digital Camera
- A gallon sized water jug
- Small tool set (metric wrenches, standard wrenches, crescent, hammer)
- 30/40 gallon tote with a lid, to use as a suitcase. Be sure to buy some duct tape or ratchet straps to secure the lid when you move. The tote is weather, oil, and dirt proof, so when it's in the back of a pickup/service truck it's protected in case of rain or anything that happens to be in the pickup bed.
